Recently, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s Gang Unit, FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force, and the Northeast Georgia Regional Drug Task Force arrested six known gang members as part of an initiative to target criminal street gang activity. The subjects arrested were: Kendrick Jackson, 18 of Athens, GA; Markeith Martin, 19, of Athens, GA; Xavier Mitchell, 20, of Athens, GA; Alijah Nelson, 18, of Athens, GA; Trayvon Shields, 20, of Athens, GA; and Davion Mitchell, 19, of Athens, GA. Four firearms and property from several recent burglaries were seized during the course of these arrests.

Jackson was charged with Loitering and Prowling and Carrying a Weapon Without a License, Xavier Mitchell was charged with Giving False Information, Martin was charged with Burglary, Nelson was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Oglethorpe County, Shields was arrested for Possession of Marijuana (M), and Davion Mitchell was arrested for Carrying a Weapon Without a License.

At the time of his arrest, Xavier Mitchell was out on bond for Violation of Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act (2 Counts), Possession of Firearm During Commission of a Crime, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Reckless Conduct, and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. At the time of his arrest, Davion Mitchell was out on bond for Criminal Trespass and Carrying a Weapon Without a License.
